Printing Family Trees from My HeritageWe can print family tree charts from data that you may have stored on My Heritage or in their software program - Family Tree Builder. If your data is stored online, all you need to do is simply export your family tree data as a GEDCOM file and then e-mail it to us along with your instructions and phone number. Please refer to their online help section for further information about exporting a GEDCOM file. Once we receive your file, we will design your chart and then e-mail you a PDF preview for your approval prior to printing. If your online data also contains photos which you'd like to appear on your printed chart, those photos will NOT be a part of the GEDCOM file that you download and send us, and therefore will not appear on your printed family tree chart. If this isn't a concern to you, don't read any further. This inability to include photos in a GEDCOM file should not be considered to be a fault of My Heritage. It is a fine site and has a lot to offer their members including the ability to export their data as a GEDCOM file. The problem is in the nature of what a GEDCOM file is and what it was originally designed to contain. The originators of the GEDCOM file definition designed it as a universal file format which would allow users to easily transfer data between different or competing genealogy software applications in a universally readable format. It was never intended as a vehicle that would contain any form of multimedia content. Printing Family Trees from Family Tree Builder With Photos
If there is something unusual about your chart, the procedure that you will follow is a little bit different as you will not be sending us just a single file that contains everything. We will notify you if that is the case, and instead you will be sending us an entire folder along with its sub-folders. Family Tree Builder stores your project data in folders that can be found underneath your "My Documents" folder in a sub-folder called "MyHeritage". Underneath the "MyHeritage" folder will be all of your different project folders. In the example to the right, we are assuming that your project name is called "tree with photos" but it can be called anything else you've already named it. We need not only that folder BUT also all of it's sub-folders and their contents written to a CD and mailed to us. If you don't need photos in your chart, you can simply e-mail us your GEDCOM file from either Family Tree Builder or from your online data at myheritage.com.
